Question : Hello, I am looking for an answer online before I head to a clinic or ER because I am a truck driver and it’s been hard getting to a clinic. The problems I am having is that I think I may have contracted a uti or a sti. My symptoms have been here for over a week but I have what looks like a swollen lymph node in my groin area. I also have slight burning sensation when I urine and as of 2 days ago I now have a clear or sometimes yellow looking penile discharge. I’m kind of hoping that it’s a UTI because I’ve only had unprotected sex with one person recently and that person is my girlfriend but as more time passes I am feeling like this is an STI. Any advice is much appreciated.
Brief Answer:
You need to get it tested....
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Both UTI and STI are infectious condition. Symptomatically the present identically. Therefore it will be extremely hard to differentiate the two based on symptoms alone.
Since you were exposed to a single person, statistically chance of STI is lower. But in practice we do not make this decision based on this fact/history alone. I insist you to see a doctor and undergo urine tests as well as test on the penile discharge sample.
Until then avoid unprotected intercourse. Keep the area clean and dry. Drink plenty of fluids and cranberries.
Hope this answered your question. Let me know if you need clarifications.
