Question : Hello,

I had a very bad cold that affected my chest, sinuses and ears. My doctor gave me a Z-pak and inhaler. Symptoms have largely resolved, but I have tenderness or aching sensation in my right ear in the area just behind the jawbone. My right ear was more affected during the cold. Could this be a residual symptom of the cold?

The earache is probably related to the cold that you have passed.

Since colds are caused by viruses, the best you can do is treat the symptoms.

I suggest you use anti-inflammatory medication such as Tylenol three tablets a day. You can also use an over the counter ear drops. I also suggest to use apply a cold washcloth to the ear. You can visit an ENT specialist if symptoms persist.
