Question : Hello. I have a question about Anaphylaxis. I suspect that I may have had this happen to me a year ago but I didn’t call for help. The condition I was feeling eventually started to go away but not completely. I went to see a doctor about it the next day and he told me that he suspected I had a allergic reaction to something so he gave me some acid reducers and antihistamines. I feel like those meds didn’t do much as I still have this tightness and heat in my face. Also a little discomfort in my chest and these feelings flare up sometimes. Other times they’re mild. I want to know if it’s possible to survive Anaphylaxis without any assistance from medication and if so is it possible for the symptoms of this reaction to linger without treatment.

Brief Answer:
You might be having milder form of anaphylaxis reaction.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, you might be having milder form of anaphylaxis at that time.
So it is possible to survive anaphylaxis (if it is milder) without treatment (assistance).
And it is also possible to have its symptoms for longer duration.
So in my opinion, you should definitely get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) for your chest tightness to rule out allergic bronchitis.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Hello doctor. Thank you for your response. Im thinking of going to see a doctor about this next week. Is it possible for me to take the Epinephrine pen to see if it will reduce my symptoms and if not what would you recomend i do?

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your follow up question on Ask a doctor forum.

Sorry for late reply as I was busy.
In my opinion, you should not take this injection by yourself.
Better to first meet the doctor.
Better to start tablet containing montelukast and levocetrizine.
Montelukast is anti allergic and levocetrizine is antihistamine.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
