Question : Hello,

I have a question about cirrhosis. I recently had a blood test that showed an ALT level of 51, with the high end of the range being 46.

I am worried about cirrhosis of the liver. I do not drink daily or even weekly. I do however binge drink on occasion. I have also binge drank several times in my past throughout college young adult hood.

Is there a chance that I could have cirrhosis? I have not symptoms and this is the only abnormal liver test I have ever received.

I know liver damage is reversible to a certain point with abstinence for alcohol and diet. Is there a posssibikity that I have reached the point where my liver damage is irreversible?

Hello,
Your concern regarding to ALT level is exaggerated.
Alcoholic cirrhosis happens in heavy drinkers, it means: drinking five or more drinks in one day on at least five of the past 30 days. It does not seem to be your case. So the chances for liver having liver cirrhosis due to alcohol abuse are almost 0.
If you had viral hepatitis for years, the changes may be irreversible, otherwise do not worry.
Check it again to assure your self that everything is ok.
