Hello! I Have An Indented Area Directly Above The Cleft

default
Posted on Fri, 12 Oct 2018
Question: Hello! I have an indented area directly above the cleft of my buttocks. When I am sitting I can feel the slightly indented area with my finger. I believe it’s always been there, but I never paid much attention to it. I believe it may be a sacral dimple/pilonidal dimple. It is not bothersome, there is no discharge or swelling, etc. I am a 51 year old female. Is his anything to be concerned about? Thank you!

Brief Answer:
No need to worry about.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor " service.

I have read your query and here is my advice.

Since there is no swelling, discharge, or pain, you shouldn't worry about.

In addition, since the indented area has been there for a very long time, without any changes, it is very unlikely to change in the future.

Just wait and watch , you should see your Doctor in case there is any change in the indentation.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi Dr. Spahio! Thank you so much for your kind and reassuring answer. I was actually able to take a picture of the area I was referring to, and am attaching it (the mole you see in the area has been there forever and my dermatologist has said it is fine). The area I was referring to is the line you can see above the cleat area of my buttocks. When I stretch it open with my fingers there’s actually an indentation that doesn’t connect to the cleat area (if that makes sense). It is pinkish on the inside and there is no swelling, discharge, etc. Does this appear normal and is it possible to have just an indented/sinus channel like that in that area? Thank you again!
