Question : Hello, I have been getting swollen ankles for the last few years. I work almost 70 hours a week, sometimes back-to-back shifts, so I do sit for long periods of time. I do find that the swelling is usually from the sock line down and goes away when I lie down for a long period of time. I had an EKG earlier in the year and everything was fine. I am morbidly obese.
Brief Answer:
It is not problematic.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I think your swollen ankles and feet may come from prolonged periods of standing sit. Also due to your increased weight and hypertension. I think it is not problematic since it doesn't have heart disease origin because your EKG was normal.
You should try loosing weight and this will help you with swollen ankles, cholesterol levels and hypertension.
You can increase also your physical activity.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
