Question : Hello,
I met with a client yesterday in my office. She disclosed that she was recently bitten by a stray dog and is now undergoing rabies vaccination. At the end of the interaction I shook her hand. Assuming that this person is infected with rabies, is it possible that I was exposed by shaking her hand? I had small cuts on my knuckles from dry skin that came into contact with her hand...

- I am not sure how many doses of the medication she has taken.
- I do not know for sure if she had cuts on her hand, although I don't think she did.

Brief Answer:
Exposure not possible in this way.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.
As per the known modes of transmission of rabies infection, shaking hands although having small cuts is not known to cause rabies.
Secondly, the clients has already being vaccinated so no worry.
I think, shaking hands will not cause rabies.
Be assured.
Nothing to worry.

I hope this answers your query.
