Question: Hello,

I was curious what could possibly be a cause of a severe sharp central abdominal cramping (one inch above the umbilicus) to come and go? I've been experiencing RUQ pain for years now with no answer (had an endoscopy, colonoscopy, CT, MRI). Figured it's all GI, maybe it's related. I feel the RUQ pain in my back as well, but this central abdominal cramping is really annoying and worrisome. Now I've had these pains before but not for past few months, but since I obtained bronchitis (about three weeks ago), these symptoms have returned. I DO NOT have my gallbladder anymore, so it would not be that organ. I'm starting to wonder if it's cardiac due to all of these GI procedures not seeing anything, and combined with a recent EKG showing an inverted T-wave.

I'm just curious what could cause central abdominal cramping and RUQ dull ache?

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
It could be due to Mesenteric Lymphadenitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Abdominal cramping pain below the Umbilicus could be due to Mesenteric Lymphadenitis.
As Gall bladder is removed, some adhesions might have formed in the Surgery area.It might be the cause of pain.
As all the investigations are over,I prefer DIAGNOSTIC LAPAROSCOPY for you.
Here, the abdominal contents are visualised and any adhesions can be released Laparoscopically.
Please consult a Surgical Gastroenterologist and proceed further.
Nothing to worry.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions,I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.

The pain is inch above the unbilicus. And it’s in a pretty localized spot as well. This harsh cramping doesn’t really produce overwhelming nausea but there is a bit of nausea as well. Would this pain above the belly button be related to my dull RUQ ache?

Hi
The pain above Umbilicus and RUQ pain may not be related.
I prescribe Proton pump inhibitor like Rabeprazole 20mg,
Antispasmodic tablet containing Dicyclomine to my patients with similar complaints.
You can take these Medicines with the prescription of your doctor and see the response.

I’ve been taking dicyclomine since this started a few days ago and it’s sort of helping but this cramping is pretty bad, due to it still happening when on bentyl.
