Question : Hello... I'm trying to get a diagnosis for my 70 year-old father, who tells me he suffers from: 1) hypertension; 2) stage three kidney disease; and, 3) bulging vertebrae and nerve strain in his back.
I'm not sure if these symptoms are related or caused by separate conditions, but if you have any thoughts (or just suggestions for where I could get more info) please let me know.
Thanks for your help!

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I understand your concern and would explain that the only connection could be between kidney disease and arterial hypertension, which are closely related to each other ( kidney disease may lead to arterial hypertension and arterial hypertension can aggravate the renal function).

There is no connection between these two disorders and the bulging discs in the vertebral column.

Coming to this point, I would like to review his actual therapy in order to suggest possible treatment options or changes in his therapy.

I would also recommend trying to reduce salt intake and lose some weight if he is overweight.

It is also important avoiding food rich in protein ( meat, beans, cheese, etc.) and avoiding weight lifting.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!

I remain at your disposal for any further questions whenever you need.
