Question : Hello, I’m wondering if you might have an idea of what the heck is going on with my body this week lol, so backstory first.. I’m a 28 y/o male in good shape, I’ve had really painful tmj on the right side of my body for years and I think it keeps the muscles on the right side of my body kinda tight also, so I’m always trying to do something healthy to see if it might help that, so about 2 months ago I completely quit drinking all alcohol and caffiene cold turkey, the first week I felt horrible I think because of the lack of caffiene ( I work long hours). Since then I’ve always felt pretty normal and mellow/ clear minded, I sleep really good too, and my skin is a bit clearer now, my tmj still hurts like crap tho, so this week for no reason I just started feeling horrible and really weird again, I was shaking all day, with a fever, and I felt really cold at the same time and was sweating a lot for 2 days, and my lower right abdomin had a tiny bit of tenderness for 1 night, and those were the only symptoms, it didn’t feel like I was sick with anything, i had no runny nose or cough or vomiting or anything, it just felt like my body was having what I hear people describe as horrible withdrawals, now today I’m at work again walking around and I still feel real weird but good also, so anyways idk if anyone can make anything it of this weird story of mine but if you can than thanks!

Brief Answer:
Most likely a passing virus

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' Service,

If it has been 2 months since you discontinued alcohol and caffeine, you should be clear of them now. Alcohol withdrawal that is severe enough to cause shaking and fever typically happen in the first week (usually after 24-72 hours) but not many symptoms linger beyond a few weeks.

Given that you have been feeling well since the initial withdrawal phase, I highly suspect that you picked up a virus, even if you had no runny nose, cough, vomiting or diarrhea. It sounds as though that is passing and you are feeling better.

If the pain in the lower right abdomen returns, however, along with malaise, and if that pain continues and worsens, then I advise you go in for evaluation to make sure you are not having appendicitis. But most likely that pain was related to something viral, which is now mostly gone.

I hope this information helps.
Please let me know if I can provide further information or clarification.
