Question: Hello. I’ve had my period for an extended period of time (12days now) it’s been bleeding very heavily for the past 7 days and the blood seems to be thicker with some blood clots present. I’m on birth control but missed it for a week and then started a new pack. I am also on the active pills right now so I am technically not suppose to be bleeding. I attached some pictures below. What do you think this could be? Miscarriage? Cervical cancer (no pain and I’ve had the shot too and I’m 19 years old), hormones off due to missed week of birth control?

Brief Answer:
Do a pregnancy home test first, hormone imbalance also is an option.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I see the picture you attached and the clots and blood seen are normal just as happens in normal periods.

The fact that you are having them for longer may be due to the pills you missed because they may have caused a hormone imbalance.
The fact that you were not much regular on taking the pills doesn't exclude abortion so it is advisable to do a home pregnancy test because it can still be positive despite possible abortion.
I don't believe this can be related to cervical cancer due to your young age and vaccination.
So as a conclusion do a pregnancy home test just to make sure it isn't abortion.
If it comes out negative the problem may be related to hormone imbalance.
If you are having a positive pregnancy home test go to hospital for further evaluation and possible d&c procedure.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
