Question: Hello
My dad is 70 years old and he suffers from bouts of Osto- Arthritis in his left knee joint. Some swelling and pain.
Does this happen because the liquid in the knee joint dries up. And can you suggest some medication for the same. He doesnt have any heart disease or diabetes or any other diseases. Somebody suggested here to have glucosamine. Is this appropriate at this age.

Brief Answer:
Glucosamine can be taken for relief.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your health concerns ,
Osteoarthritis is an age related degenerative change in the weight bearing joints like knee that happens due to wear and tear of the knee cartilage and decreased joint lubricants which makes all the movements painful.
The treatment options include pain killers may be given after consultation with your orthopaedician.
He can start with glucosamine and chondroitin supplements along with regular physiotherapy to help reduce the further progression of the problem.

Wishing you good health.
Regards.
