Hello, I am unable to upload pictures as she and I are not together,as she lives elsewhere. She also gets blisters on her elbows when she gets an outbreak, about 2 inches in diameter.
They are very painful and she does take Lyrica and gabapentin for pain, to little effect.

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be shingles
Detailed Answer:
thank you.
I doubt that she has shingles because shingles is usually restricted to a dermatome (a patch or a band or a stripe) rather than being scattered over different body areas like face and on elbow. Moreover, shingles is not recurring in nature. It usually last for a week or 10 days and responds well to oral antiviral treatment. Perhaps she has a blistering autoimmune disease like a pemphigus, specially if it is recurring. If you don't have the images I would sincerely request her to kindly visit a Dermatologist nearby for a definitive diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
hope to assist you further once I get the images.
