Question: Hello.
My wife (72) woke up this morning with a metallic taste in her mouth. She has had constant drainage in her throat. She is allergic to oak, mold, cats, and antihistamines.
Has been feeling weak because of this. Also, her balance is affected by variations in air pressure. Also has had Ramsey-Hunter syndrome about 9 months ago.

Brief Answer:
nasal sprays, decongestants, singulair

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The post nasal drip of mucus can be related to allergies and issues with the sinuses which can affect balance.

Balance is affected by the inner ears, an area in the brain and nerves in the feet. Issues with the inner ear are the most common reasons for disturbance in balance.

The post nasal drip itself can contribute to altered taste sensation.

Though she does not have nasal congestion or runny nose, the use of a nasal spray such as avamys, nasocort, nasonex, flonase or rhinocort.
These are steroid nose sprays and they are helpful in reducing symptoms related to post nasal drip.
In addition to the nose spray, she can use an oral or topical decongestant (these also reduce secretions to the back of the throat as well).

Topical decongestants include: normal saline or otrivine
Oral would be : sudafed

Decongestants can also sometimes help with balance as it relates to the ear because they can help with eustachian tube dysfunction (a tube in the middle ear that can sometimes affect balance, if not working well)

If there is no effect with these meds then medication such as singulair can be added

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
