Hello! On December 29 I Took The After Pill, Provoking

Question: Hello! On December 29 I took the after pill, provoking bloating. During this time I was ovulating, and it is normal for this to happen to me. Then on December 5 I got my period and was very very bloated. On Tuesday 7 of that same week, during my period, I decide to eat a vegan diet, in order to reduce this swelling that I have in my belly. To this day, I have felt very bloated. So usually if it happens to me it is not too extreme as I look. I'm 20 years old and I usually weigh 118-120 pounds, but now I weigh 125 pounds. I would like to know what is happening to me, and if this is a product of the morning after pill.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for trusting us with your health concerns.

Did you have a period on the 5th of December or January?

I presume it is in January. This is the withdrawal bleeding seen after the emergency contraceptive pill intake.

The pill contains high dose of progesterone and hence is the more likely cause of your bloating. This will wear off in a couple of weeks as your next cycle sets in.

Your next natural period may be delayed by a week or two in view of the hormone disruption caused by the pill intake. If you become overdue by more than ten days, please see your health care provider for further assistance.

Hope your query has been clarified.
Please feel free to contact for further clarifications. I will be happy to help.

Yes, I got my period the 5th of January. Thanks for the quick reply☺️ Also really quick, do you thing a vegan diet could be the cause of me gaining weight or is it because of the liquid that my body is retaining, cause of the pill?

Brief Answer:
It is the hormone content in the pill.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

It is the hormone content in the pill that is the more likely cause of the weight gain and not the vegan diet. The high hormone dose leads to water retention and hence the symptoms.

Hope this helps.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.
