Question : Hello Sir,

Mrs.Rajita was operated for hydatid cyst in 2016. at present she does not have any complain & she is not under any medication.
request your guidance on followings.

what is prognosis of disease ?
what are chances of recurrence after 3 years of surgery ?
does she require any investigation reports to rule out complications or any disorder related to it.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query with attached images of case summary and reports and here is my advise.

* The recurrence of Hydatid cyst is known phenomenon to occur which
depends upon host and parasite characteristics.

* The percentage of recurrence varies very widely, but standard studies do
suggest a chance of around 8-10 % recurrence over a period of 6 months
to 3 years post operatively and highly negligible beyond that.

* Routine measures are ultrasound and liver function test on yearly basis.

However, your ultrasound report attachment is lacking liver mentioning (because it is scanned at half way from top margin of report) and I would request you to resend only ultrasound report during follow up discussion.
