Hello and welcome to Ask a Doctor service,
I carefully read your query and understand yourconcern.
Generally, diarrhea due to a food poisoning should be better in a week.
The presence of blood in stools and diarrhea lasting for more than a week may indicate bacterial infection or other conditions such as cholitis due to inflammatory bowel disease.
I would recommend you to make sure you take oral rehydration solutions (over the counter) to substitute both water and electrolytes you are loosing. Making sure you drink plenty of water and oral rehydrating solutions is very important.
Also, pepto is not recommended to be used in the case of bloody diarrhea, so I would recommend you to stop using it at the moment.
Try to avoid food that is greasy or sweet food and also avoid milk while you have diarrhea as these make diarrhea worse. You can still eat cheese and yogurt.
Meanwhile, you need to set an appointment to see your doctor as bloody diarrhea may need investigations which will guide further treatment.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case the further medical assistance is needed.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj
