Question: Hello. So my boyfriend and I had sex for the first time last Sunday (9 days ago), unprotected. He pulled out before his climax. My period began the day after. Completely normal flow and such. We had unprotected sex again on Wednesday, and again he pulled out before his climax, and I was still bleeding. My period ended by Friday morning, bleeding completely done. Unprotected sex occurred again this Sunday. He pulled out before climax. Then we did it again last night, all the same. Today, I woke up and now I'm spotting, but the discharge is brown. And when I pee, no blood comes out. I've felt nauseous all through out the day, but haven't thrown up. And I've had a few momentary cramps in my stomach. None of this has ever happened before. Any ideas?

Brief Answer:
Very unlikely to be pregnant.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using Ask a Doctor. First I would say that it would be extremely unlikely that you would be pregnant. You certainly wouldn't get pregnant before and during your period, especially if you have regular periods, and normally you ovulate (which means you can get pregnant) a few weeks after your period, so you would be very unlikely to get pregnant from the last couple of days. Also, symptoms of pregnancy would take several weeks to start to show up, so these symptoms are certainly not from being pregnant.

Having some brown discharge after your period is not unexpected and I wouldn't be too concerned about it unless you are having pelvic pain or fever, in which case you may have an infection and should be examined by a doctor. As for the nausea and cramps, most likely you have a stomach virus that is causing some mild symptoms, or it is something you ate.

If when you pee, there is no blood, that wouldn't be concerning, but did you mean to say there was blood?

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any other questions about any of that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
