Hello Doctor, How Does Someone Treat Dandruff?

Question: Hello doctor, how does someone treat dandruff?
Brief Answer:
Management of dandruff
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to ask a doctor service
For dandruff you need to use an antifungal shampoo containing ketoconazole or ciclopirox olamine 2-3 times in a week.
In severe cases oral antifungal like tablet terbinafine 250 mg once daily or capsule itraconazole 100 mg once daily has to be taken for 3-4 weeks. This can have side effects, therefore it should be taken under doctor supervision.
Also a topical steroid antifungal lotion like clotrimazole and beclomethasone lotion can be applied on itchy and scaly areas of the scalp twice daily for 3-4 weeks.
Also avoid oiling of scalp.
