Question : Hello my problem seems to be some form of erectile dysfunction. For some reason there are many times where I can get an erection hard enough for penetration but it will go away very quickly and often times before I reach penetration. I can continue to get it back but as soon as a stimulant stops, I will lose it before I can start. I have taken sildenafil and it has helped very well but I do not know if this is okay to do or if I am simply masking an underlying cause. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Psychological causes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I have gone through your query.

Erectile disfunction can have physical or psychological causes.

In many cases, erectile dysfunction is caused by something physical like :Heart disease, atherosclerosis,High cholesterol or blood pressure
Diabetes or certain prescription medications.

Considering your young age the most probable physical conditions that can cause erectile disfunction are Obesity, smoking, alcoholism or substance abuse and Sleep disorders

At the other side you should know that the brain plays a key role in triggering the series of physical events that cause an erection, starting with feelings of sexual excitement.
A number of things can interfere with sexual feelings and cause or worsen erectile dysfunction.

The mos common psychological causes of erectile disfunction are Stress,
Depression, anxiety or other mental health conditions,Relationship problems due to stress or poor communication with your partner.

Considering your description,i can deduce that you dont have reduced sexual desire or trouble getting an erection( low testosterone can be excluded a priori).Your problem is keeping an erection and considering that you are 22 years old,in my opinion the root cause is a psychological condition.

Your symptom can be caused by stress, tiredness, anxiety or drinking too much alcohol, and it's nothing to worry about.

My advice for you is to not hesitate to consult a local XXXXXXX and discuss with him about the right cause and treatement in your case.

Sometimes, treating an underlying physical or psychological condition is enough to reverse erectile dysfunction. In other cases, medications or other direct treatments might be needed.

Hope this is helpful.
Wish you all the best.
