Hello, Was Travelling For 3-4 Days And Ended Up Eating

Question: Hello, was travelling for 3-4 days and ended up eating out a lot. Have had loose motions since morning, no fever. I took econorm and since in office, had to take enouf also, but not helping. Mild stomach ache as well, stomach feels bloated and acidity. What medicine can I take. It's been 4-5 times
Brief Answer:
Can take Imodium
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
For lose motions you can take Tab Imodium 2 mg now and repeat 2-3 times a day for 2 days with or without food. Alongwith, take ORS in cleaner drinking water. Carry bottled water while travelling.
For acidity, try tums or digene syrup.
It will resolve by itself in 4-5 days. If it doesn't then you may need an antibiotic.
Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello, still no relief. Have been 11 times now. Can you please suggest an antibiotic? Have taken 4 imodium, not so much acidity now and very mild stomach pain but loose motions not stopping. Please advise medicine.
Brief Answer:
You can take Cephalexin
Detailed Answer:
Hi again
Firstly I will suggest that you rule out Typhoid by doing a Typhidot or Widal test. Because typhoid requires a longer duration of treatment for upto 10 days or more depending on fever. Antibiotic can be given after getting this test done.
For bacterial gastroenteritis, I usually prescribe Tab Ofloxacin-ornidazole (200mg-500mg) combination BD for 3-5 days. Alternatively Tab Cephalexin 250 mg BD for 3-5 days can be taken.
Hope this helps.
