Hello and welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I have read your query.
Spinning sensation triggered by certain head and neck positions mostly are indicative of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).
Its cause is often unknown (Idiopathic BPPV ) or, in some cases, it may be linked with head injuries, migraine, etc.
Epley maneuver is a possible treatment technique.
It is necessary for your mother to get evaluated by an ENT Doctor in order to understand the condition in detail.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Her right hand also gets numb when she lies down and has pain in back of neck

But she has no pain in ear
Brief Answer:
BPPV has no relation with ear pain.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.
BPPV is caused by inner ear dysfunction and is not related to ear pain.
Pain in neck and arm numbness may be a separate condition most likely cervical spine spondylosis.
Your mother should see her Doctor for a correct understanding of the condition.
Hope this helps.
Feel free to ask if you have further questions.
