Question : Hey doctor yesterday morning I woke up with a mild sore throat which I have been treating with Betadine sore throat gargle. However I have now woken up today and the sore throat seems to have gotten a lot more painful but weirdly I don’t have any other symptoms no runny nose, headaches etc just the sore throat at the moment. What do you think this could be and at what point is it worth getting checked out? I am just a little worried with this whole covid-19 virus going around and just looking for the symptoms to look out for.
Brief Answer:
No need to worry for Corona infection at present.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
Since you have sore throat only, without fever, headache or runny nose or cough, I don't think it is Corona Virus infection.
So no need to go for Corona testing.
Continue betadine gargles.
Start levocetrizine or fexofenadine twice daily.
Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep yourself hydrated.
If you develop fever or dry cough or headache in next 3-4 days then consult doctor for Corona testing.
At present, no need to worry.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
