Question : Hi - I had an intermittent pain - it’s just down from my right knee cap - between there and my shin bone. My knee is not swollen or red, but sometimes I get a sharp pain - especially if I touch the tendon in certain ways. I’m guessing it’s the patellar tendon, although not sure. One day it’s fine and another day the pain is quite sharp. Thoughts on what might be wrong? Suggested treatment?

Brief Answer:
Can be patellar tendonitis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
From description it seems the problem might be the patellar tendonitis or jumpers knee.Patellar tendonitis is the condition that arises when the tendon and the tissues that surround it, become inflamed and irritated. This is usually due to overuse , repetitive or prolonged activities placing strain on the patellar tendon.

Treatment of such pain often begins with simple measures. Rest your knee as much as possible. Avoid any activities that increase the pain, such as climbing stairs. Specific exercises can strengthen the muscles that support your knees and control limb alignment, such as your quadriceps, hamstrings and the muscles around your hips.

I suggest you to consult an orthopaedician nearby for a detailed examination. You may get the X-ray of the area affected under his/her guidance to see any arthritic changes, joint destruction or any other pathology).
Till then using an elastic knee support and mild pain killers can help.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
