Question: Hi- I recently had my blood work done. My GFR it says is 73 now. A month ago it was 78. My creatinine has gone up by 5 points. I don’t even eat meat. I am a 40 year old male and very concerned about my kidney health. I also get recurrent gout attacks. Could the gout be causing a decline in kidney function? Last two-three years my GFR has fluctuated between 81 and 73. My potassium also came at 5.1 mmol when 1 month ago it was 4.3 mmol. Please advise. Thanks

Based on the facts that you have posted the GFR value of 73 for a man of 43 age is considered to be normal .A variation in GFR done over a period of three consecutive months has significance and not otherwise .

You have not mentioned value of Serum Creatinine in terms of mg% .Please upload the entire blood and urine report issued by laboratory to make precise comments .
