Question: Hi Doctor, I am having an MRI this morning and feel colstaphobic. I usually take Lorazepam 0.5mg one an hour before and one again when the test begins. This time when I picked up my prescription they only gave me one pill and I did not realize it until just now. I do have another script for diazepam 2mg that I have taken for muscle spasms. Can I take one of these now and the other lorazepam when I get to the test or do these inter act? I also take extra strength Tylenol arthritis 650mg 2 pills 3x day and wear a fentynol pain patch 72 hrs. 25mg. Thanks. XXXXXXX

No, I wouldn't recommend taking the Diazepam as it could increase the chances of being Overdosed. Moreover, you're also wearing the Fentanyl patch which could prolong the effects significantly.

Being claustrophobic is a very common phenomenon in the MRI room. Most of the centers provide good quality headphones with soothing music to overcome this, that'll be helpful. Additionally, you can take a family friend or even talk to your MRI technician during the procedure (the headphones also contain a microphone), it'll help to ease the phase. You can also request them to brighten the lighting of the MRI room during the procedure, which could be useful.

Just take the single dose of Lorazepam 0.5mg before the test begins, this should be enough to take care of the symptoms. Please don't worry.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
