Question: Hi Doctor

I have done dental implants and removed all my original bad teeth with artificial implants. The surgery was done two years ago and it was successful.

I would like to know if it is safe to use normal colgate (toothpaste) and mouthwash for normal mouth hygiene and cleaning. If not, what are the alternative toothpaste and mouthwash?

Regards
Hussein

Brief Answer:
Saline, mouth wash, interdental brushes

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query. I have gone through your query.
If the artificial teeth are in the form of dentures, You can use tooth paste which comes in the form of gel to clean the dentures (if it is removable) or you can use denture cleansers which comes in the form of tablets of solution. Regular colgate tooth paste can abrade the dentures and create rough surfaces. So better to use denture cleansers which are available in gel or tablet form.
For the gums beneath the artificial teeth, the gum surface should be cleaned with small interdental brushes. You need to rinse with saline or regular mouth wash to maintain the general oral hygiene.
If the teeth are fixed, then you can use regular tooth paste to cleanse it and dental floss or water jets can be used to clean the space between the artificial teeth and gums.
I hope i have answered your query. If you have any queries reply me back. Take care.

Thank you

The implants with dentures are not removable but fixed with normal implants. In this case do normal toothpaste and mouthwash work for cleaning purpose? If not, which brand are normally recommended for both mouthwash and toothpaste?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
Any tooth paste, colgate, nitrahex

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your reply.
In your case you can use any tooth paste or mouthwash to clean the artificial teeth. Make sure that the gums below the teeth are clean by rinsing your mouth soon after eating anything and you can use small interdental brushes to clean such areas. If i am your treating doctor, i would have advised you to use colgate or pepsodent tooth paste and nitrahex or Chlohex mouthwash.
I hope i have answered your query. If you have any queries reply me back. Take care.
