Question: Hi Doctor,

I wanted to consult regarding my period cycle. I have my wedding on Dec 23, 2018 and other functions starting from Dec 21, 2018. I got my periods on Oct 31, 2018. I have analyzed that my periods are coming 3-4 days in advance every month. I am suspecting that my periods in Nov 2018, would start around 26th or 27th of Nov, 2018. If the same pattern continues, then i may have my periods starting on my wedding day which is on Dec 23, 2018. I wanted to know any solutions to delay the periods by 2-3 days. is it safe to take tablets for doing so. I also wanted to know if there are any side effects. Appreciate your help.

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
You can take hormones under medical supervision.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Ms. XXXXXXX

Welcome to HCM.

Thanks for posting your query.

In the current scenario, you can use progesterone supplements to postpone your menstrual cycle up to a week. However, as you are under treatment for acne with an antibiotic, the hormone dose needs adjustment. Also, acne may increase as a side effect if hormones are taken for a prolonged period. Since you are going to use only for a short period, there should be little worry.

So, I would ask you to go for the hormone therapy under medical supervision. A 7-10 day long course initiated one week prior to the expected day of menstruation should suffice. Please do not prolong the medication beyond 20 days.

Hope your query is answered. Please feel free to contact for further clarifications. I will be happy to help.

regards,

Hi XXXXXXX Mam,

I reached out to a gynecologist and explained my query. She told me to consume XXXXXXX tablet on my day2 of periods coming in this month till 14th dec, so that my periods can start around 20th Dec, which is before my wedding. I am not convinced with this treatment since she did not explain me well and also this tablet is a birth contraceptive pill as i checked online.

If my periods start around 25th of this month, then according to your suggestion, i must take the hormone therapy one week prior to the expected day of menstruation which most likely would be 22, 23 dec. Pls guide me.

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Can go for shorter regime.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

In my opinion, you can go for a shorter regime. Also, advancing a cycle is not always successful. Postponement is more effective.

You can get the hormone medication, use it the week to ten days before the period is due. You can expect the withdrawal bleeding to occur in 3-4 days.

Hope you find this information useful. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

regards,
Shanti.V.
