Question : Hi Doctor,
My mother is aged 57 years and constantly faces severe dry cough such that she is not able to take breathe at some times. She recently undergone some generic tests for which reports are attached. Please review them and let us know.
When ever she goes to doctor for the cough problem, doctor gives some medicines, cough syrup and it repeats again in few weeks. Would you recommend to change the cooking oil, if so which one is to be consumed? Is Oilve oil the best for my mother and for father who has diabetes and high blood pressure?
Note - my mother doesn't have any hereditary diseases. She suffers from back pain for the past 15 years.

Brief Answer:
Get done chest x ray and PFT.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Ask a doctor forum.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the images you have attached.
All reports are normal.
No need to worry diabetes.
For her coughing, in my opinion, you should get done chest x ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Chest x ray is needed to rule out lung infection.
PFT is must for the diagnosis of bronchitis.
Both, lung infection and bronchitis can cause chronic recurrent cough.
Also start using olive oil or sunflower oil for cooking.
Please let me know if she has any allergy like dust or pollens.
I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your mother. Thanks.

Thank you, Doctor for the quick response.
We have conducted these tests chest x ray and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) in the past based on a doctor consultation in our home town. That time doctor said her lungs has Phlegm which will melt or go off in few days.
But I can't understand why does she gets this repetitively. She used Go Cough syrup as seen on TV and it reduced for few days but not entirely.
She doesn't have any allergy. We use mostly Refined oil, I will order Olive oil as you suggested.
