Hi Doctor, My Wife Is Pregnant. She Had Her Last

Question: Hi Doctor, My wife is pregnant. She had her last period on Nov 25th 2018. I had consulted a gynecologist and she had recommended certain tabs and a scan coming Tuesday. Since morning she had white watery type discharge which has turned out to be reddish spots now. She is very worried. She had one abortion in 2017 Dec. I want to know if red spotting is normal or it's an emergency situation which needs medical attention. Awaiting your response.
Brief Answer:
Could be abortion again, get her checked by the gynaecologist ASAP.
Detailed Answer:
Hello Mr. XXXXXXX
Welcome back to Ask a Doctor service.
I have gone through your query and have noted the previous conversations.
Given the previous history of abortion and watery discharge followed by reddish spotting, I suspect onset of abortion this time as well.
In my opinion, you must consult your gynaecologist as soon as possible to confirm as it requires immediate ultrasound scanning and vaginal exam.
I hope this answers your query for now.
Best wishes.

I took my wife to hospital. Nurse contacted the doctor over phone and asked if it's just spotting or its flowing. My wife said it's like spotting and there is no flow. So she asked my wife to take rest and return on Tuesday for the scan. What would you suggest sir.
Brief Answer:
You should tell the doctor that there was watery discharge before spotting
Detailed Answer:
Hello again Mr XXXXXXX
You should inform that doctor that it was watery discharge initially and then spotting started.
Ask the doctor to come and examine.
It is the least she/he can do.

Yes. We did mention about watery (white jelly kind of discharge) in the morning when she woke up. Then in the evening after lunch she had few red spots which happened for couple of minutes. Then it was dark brownish discharge. Now it's stopped. There is no pain being experienced by her. We explained this to the doctor. She said to take rest. Red spotting is quite common in few ladies during pregnancy. Just take bed rest. Don't wake up. Come on Tuesday. We will do a scan. Should I consult another doctor XXXXXXX morning or consult the same doctor for scan on Tuesday?
Brief Answer:
If there is no pain, you can wait. Consult the same doctor
Detailed Answer:
Hello again Mr XXXXXXX
Thank you for writing back with further details.
If there is no pain, you can wait for some more time.
Bed rest is essential.
It is best to consult the same doctor as she would be knowing all the relevant details.
If it is indeed abortion, then even if you see another doctor, there is nothing much that can be done, and we will have to let the nature take its own course.
It does not seem like abortion if the spotting has stopped completely now.
I hope things turn out to be not serious at all. Yes, it is common to experience some spotting during pregnancy, but it is also a warning sign for abortion.
So it is best to be cautious, that is why I insisted on you visiting the doctor.
I hope this answers your query.
Best wishes for you and your wife.
