Hello and welcome to "Ask A Doctor"
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern,
Pain over the hand, radiating from neck to the arm could be due the irritation of the diaphragm following the entrapment of air inside the abdomen during the procedure. But this should not last for long.
I would like to know a few related details in order to guide you better:
- Does she have any restriction of movements in the affected arm?
- Does the pain vary on moment or rest?
- Is there associated pins and needle sensation or tingling?
- Any history of neck pain or cervical spondylolisthesis?
Awaiting your response,
Regards

Detailed Answer:
Hello again,
Thanks for writing back,
Sorry for the inadvertent delay in relying back as I was out of station,
Thanks for bearing with me,
I have gone through the details you have provided me,
The symptoms that she is currently experiencing seems to be probably due to pinched nerve probably at the cervical region or in some cases could be due to nerve irritation following diaphragmatic stimulation. I would suggest her to do the following:
- Consult with an orthopediatrician for proper examination and investigation to look at the level of nerve injury.
- Avoid bending and lifting weights.
- Avoid using pillows while sleeping.
- Apply hot water backs on the painful areas so as to avoid inflammation.
If the cause of pinched nerve is excluded by the doctor, the symptoms due to nerve irritation following surgery can take sometime to resolve on its own. You may consider physical therapy at this point.
I hope this helps,
Please feel free to discuss further,
Regards
