Question : Hi, I a female aged 48. I have headache with sleep problems for so many years. One week ago, I started to feel numbness and tingling in my both legs and sometimes heavy legs. With mild numbness in my hands. What could it be ? I am afraid that I have MS or other neurological problem. I need your help please.

Brief Answer:
A neurological evaluation is necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask a Doctor " service.

I have read your query and here is my advice.

Short term numbness in legs and hands doesn't mean that you are suffering from serious neurological diseases.

As a start, stress overload for example may cause such issues.

So, if you had an fatigued and overloaded period recently, it may be the culprit.

Other possible conditions that may cause such symptoms are spinal degerative changes with compression on the spinal cord, peripheral neuropathy ( from low vitamin B12, viral infections, alcohol use, adverse effects of drugs, etc.).

In my opinion, you should be seen by your Neurologist as the first step to understand better your condition.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
