Question: Hi, I am 27 and have been diagnosed with fibroadenoma (9x6 mm) in my left breast, The doctor said that it does not mean an increased risk in breast cancer, but on the internet I found several articles that say that there might be a slightly higher risk, so I would like to get a second opinion onthat. Otherwise, I do not have any history of breast cancer in my family.

Brief Answer:
Fibroadenoma and cancer risk

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting us with your health concern

Given your age, family history, and size of the adenoma, it is most likely to be a simple fibroadenoma. Simple fibroadenomas have no increased risk for cancerous changes.
Only complex fibroadenomas have a slightly higher risk of cancer.

You don't need to worry at this point. Keep a close watch to see if the size of adenoma is changing or you develop pain or skin changes in the area of fibroadenoma.
If so, follow up with your doctor to undergo further evaluation.

Otherwise, yearly clinical breast examination is only warranted.

Most fibroadenomas eventually shrink in size and disappear over the years.

Hope I was able to help you
