Question: Hi, I am a 57 year old female with medium fair skin. I have a rash on my chest and around my wrists, likely a contact dermatitis from perfume and/or bath oil. I have treated with cortisone cream (OTC) and tretinoin cream .05%. Have also taken benadryl tablets, which helped some, but it is persistent for over a week now.

Probably contact dermatitis, follow the advice below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I understand your concern.

I already reviewed the attached report.

Your symptoms seem to be related to contact dermatitis.

First of all I recommend to avoid the contact with the allergen such as the perfume or the bath oil.

I suggest to use hydrocortisone cream for local application.

I see that you have already used antihistamines without any effect.

So, I may recommend using steroids such as Prednisone 5 mg three times a day.

Cool showers can also be helpful in reducing the inflammation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
