Question : Hi
I am a healthy 55 year old woman who exercises regularly. I am under great stress with a dad who has severe dementia. I have an on and off discomfort in my upper right abdomen right under my right breast area and ribs. It is a dull ache. I have seen my GP and he feels it is from doing plank position in bootcamp class.
It is a bit worse under stress.

Brief Answer:
Cholecystitis or muscle strain.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
There is a possibility that this pain may come to due to gallbladder issues such as gallbladder stones or inflammation. It gives this pain on the right abdominal quadrant under the right ribcage. You may need to do an ultrasound or even liver chemistry to evaluate the situation.
Another possibility is that it may be a muscle strain due to excess exercise. Probably exercising more and more with higher intensity and sometimes without the right warm-up can lead to abdominal muscle pain.
This may be felt most probably after you finish a group of very intense abdominal exercises.
Hope I have answered the question.
