Question : Hi, I have Nexplanon implant for contraception, however am very paranoid that I will still become pregnant. My husband always wears a condom. However last week he did not and I became very worried the next day that I could become pregnant. I weigh 70kg and am worried that the Nexplanon can fail because of my weight....is this possible?
I took emergency contraception (EC) within 12 hours of having sex - ( 2 pills of 0.75 milligrams of Levonorgestrel, taken 2 hours apart). Now I am concerned that taking the EC could affect the Nexplanon?
Could the sudden decrease in Levonorgestrel after the EC wore off cause me to ovulate?
Sorry about all the questions. I am very anxious.
Thanks in advance.

                                    Brief Answer:
Nexplanon will protect you from pregnancy.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
You are not so overweight so as the Nexplanon will fail. No need to worry. You are protected against pregnancy. Taking EC can cause a hormonal disturbance and can result in a mild spotting or bleeding that will stop on its own in 4-7 days.
The Nexplanon will work normally. There will be no ovulation. There is no need to worry.
I hope this answers your query.

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX Tayal. I seem to have very light periods while on Nexplanon however they are regular. Does a regular period indicate that I am ovulating? If not, what causes the regular bleeding?

                                    Brief Answer:
No ovulation.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
A regular period indicates that Nexplanon is working well. You do not ovulate while on Nexplanon.
The regular bleeding happens due to the hormones discharged regularly by Nexplanon in a cyclic way.
