Hi I Have A Question Regarding A Medication I Have

Question: Hi I have a question regarding a medication i have been taking for about 1 month now called Viibryd. I have tried various meds over the years for my anxiety and negative thinking and fights with my husband. I found that this one was working quite well for me.... until the past 3 or 4 days. The past few days out of nowhere i seem to be having withdrawal symptoms - strange brain zaps, and tiredness and more anxiety along with headaches.

I am on 10 mg of this med because I am very sensitive to medications but could this be something where I just need to up the dose a little bit? Or is it showing that its not right for me at all? I am wondering what your thoughts are on this. I know its a low dose but ususally i stay at low doses. Should I try a higher dose and will the strange side effects subside? I do find it strange that they started so late after I began the medicine?

I hope you can give me a little help or advice on this subject. Thank you and look forward to hearing back asap.

Brief Answer:
The dose should be increased.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using 'Ask A Doctor' service

I can understand your problem. Viibryd or Vilazodone is a newer drug. The drug has good efficacy but the dose of 10 mg is very low for this drug. You started with 10 mg and felt better and then you started having brain zaps, anxiety, headaches, and tiredness. These are not due to side effects of the drug but are due to persistent anxiety symptoms.

Considering this situation it’s better to increase the dose of the drug to at least 20 mg. At this dose, the drug will control the anxiety. The drug is safe and even 20 mg is not a high dose for this drug.

Thanks and Take care
