Question : Hi I have a soft lump on the lower portion of my sternum for 2 months. It had progressed to a feeling of pressure especially when I bend over or wear a bra. I have seen my own doctor who has referred me for an ultra sound. My bowels have been more active and I have more bloating and gas then usual.

                                    I uploaded a photo.

                                    Brief Answer:
It could be Lipoma or Epigastric Hernia
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Swelling below the Sternum in the Midline could be a Lipoma or Epigastric Hernia.
Lipoma is a subcutaneous swelling arising from adipose tissue. It has to be removed surgically under Anaesthesia.
In Epigastric Hernia, there will be a Defect in the Midline below sternum, allowing Fat /bowel to come through it and present as a swelling. Here, the contents have to be pushed inside and out the defect should be closed by Surgery.
Ultrasound abdomen will confirm the diagnosis.
Nothing to worry.
Please consult your doctor and proceed further.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions,I will clarify further.
Wish you good health
Regards
