Question : Hi, I have been experiencing chest pain and rapid heart beat for a while now and couldn't figure out the problem. I went to see a doctor but they didnt seem to care much and said it's just probably because I'm about 45 pounds overweight. I have also been using minoxidil for hair regrowth for quite some time now and read online that it can cause all the symptoms I'm having. My question is will this go away now that I stopped, and should I see a different doctor

Regarding your concern, I would explain that if the chest pain is related to minoxidil adverse effects, it will go away shortly after stopping this drug.

I would also like to know more about the chest pain:

- Is it triggered by deep breathing, body movements or pressure on the chest? This would indicate possible musculoskeletal pain.

- Is the pain related to eating,? This could indicate possible gastritis or acid reflux.

You should know that anxiety can mimic this situation too.

Anyway, if the chest pain persists after stopping Minoxidil, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and some tests;

- a resting ECG
- thyroid hormone levels for possible thyroid gland dysfunction
- complete blood count, PCR, ESR for inflammation
- blood electrolytes for possible imbalances.
