Hi. I Have Been Having Significant Memory Loss For About

Question: Hi. I have been having significant memory loss for about 6 months. Previously I prided myself on my good memory; now I have holes in my memory. Additionally, I can often remember a conversation I've had but not place or the person I had it with. I have lots of word finding difficulties. I'm 43 years old.
My other symptom is blurry vision, which has started more recently.
I had a brain scan and I went to a neurologist who said the scan was fine and the tests he gave me were fine. I don't know what to do.

Brief Answer:
Further investigations and work up are needed.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for posting your query.

I am Dr Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, and I would try my best to help you.

I have noted your clinical details. Based on this, we need to exclude a diagnosis of dementia. You have memory impairment and language dysfunction, which seem to be interfering with activities of daily living.

You should undergo a detailed neuropsychological assessment to determine the severity of dementia and to clearly establish the cognitive domains affected.

If MRI of brain is normal, PET scan of brain is needed. This is because PET scan is better for detecting functional disorders of brain including dementia.

Once the cause is identified, appropriate medicines can be started.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
