Question : Hi, I have been on Olanzapine for 6 weeks now. I have noticed tenderness in the breast & a clear discharge when wiping after using the bathroom. Now in the past couple days the discharge has some bloody color to it. I read the paper that came with my medicine. It said that you may produce breast milk. Is this all connected & should I be concerned & stop this medicine? I haven’t had a period in 2years or more.

Brief Answer:
As explained below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to "Ask A Doctor"

I have gone through your query.

Yes, olanzapine can cause breast tenderness and discharge. As long as it is not disturbing your daily activities you can continue with the medicine.

If it is causing some discomfort I would suggest you go to your treating doctor and ask for an alternative medicine which does not have these side effects. I would not suggest you stop olanzapine on your own. It has to be done under a supervision.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to discuss further.
