Hi,
I think my questions were not updated properly which was mixed with my previous questions. Please consider below while answering my queries.

I have high blood pressure which was triggered in 2010 then I continued medication for 2 years, later the doctor advised to reduce it slowly and stopped the medication. After that my bp was normal (avg 125/85) as i used to maintain the diet. In May 2018 I took some pain killer for my severe back pain as per doctor advise for 5 days then the pain killer affected my kidney and I admitted to the hospital for that. During that time my bp again triggered and was average 145/95. So the doctor suggested Amlo 5mg tablet and I am taking that since then. My questions are as follows: 1. Currently, my bp is average 130/85 based on daily reading of last 1 month, shall I continue taking the medicine or reduced it slowly and maintain the healthy diet? I am doing regular exercise as well. But the doctor is not agreeing to stop the medication even not explaining the reason. 2. If I stop medication will it affect my kidney or will it cause any other health issue? 3. Can I only take BP medicine when the reading is high?

I would recommend as follows:

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your actual blood pressure values (which are borderline) are under medical treatment, as you are currently taking amlodipine.

So, if you stop taking amlodipine your blood pressure values could go up again and your situation would worsen.

To conclude, I agree with your doctor on the decision of not stopping amlodipine. Besides, amlodipine is a vasodilator, so it is safe in cases of kidney dysfunction.

Amlodipine effects last up to 24 hours and it does not have an immediate effect (you will wait at least 30 minutes before it shows its effects).

In such cases, Captopril 25mg sublingually during spikes of high blood pressure would be the best treatment option.

When your blood pressure values will drop below 110/70mm Hg, it will be OK to stop amlodipine.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!
