Hi. I Have Had A UTi And Painful Pee. I Got Macrobid And Amox Get Experiencing Sore Flank And Very Bad Uterus Pain Went For Urine Check And I Have E- Coli Dr Suggested Ciproxin Ciprofloxacin I Am Scared To Take As I Have Fibromyalgia And I Read It’s Bad For That. But Equally I Am Scared This Goes In To My Kidneys And Causes Likes Of Sepsis Can You Advise Me On This Medicine ? Is It Safe?

Question : Hi. I have had a UTi since 20th July. It started as regularity and painful pee. I got Macrobid but I reacted to it after 3 days so I then went on to Amox and had that for three days.
A week later I started to get sore flank and very bad uterus pain like labour pains. I am not pregnant and my period has started. But 4 days late.
The doctor ran a urine check and I have e- coli.
They have given me Ciproxin Ciprofloxacin.
I have read up on it and I am scared to take as I have fibromyalgia and I read it’s bad for that. But equally I am scared this goes in to my kidneys and causes likes of sepsis.
My uterus is hugely sore and swollen. So I do have bad one here. Can you advise me on this medicine ? Is it safe for me to take with Fibro myalgia ? The doc said it’s a 5 day course so they think ok ?

Hello,
Based on the facts that you have posted you seem to have UTI du togram negative bacteria E-coli and your Dr has prescribed Ciprofloxacin twice daily for five days .However you are scared to take the same you being having Fibromyalgia.
The side effect of Ciprofloxacin that you are about are very rare and occur when you take the drug for a prolonged period and never observed when one takes it for a week or two .Hence there is no harm in taking for five days .
Else if your Dr has done urine culture can take other antibiotic as per urine culture report.
Ensure to drink more water It will help to keep your urine dilute and to reduce dysuria.
Since you have flank pain I would suggest you to get Ultrasound Scanning of abdomen done to rule out any stone in kidney ,

Hi thank you for this, ok I feel better to take this medicine. I read online people lost their heating and all sorts with this after one tablet ?
I have been given the liquid form.
Can I ask about my uterus. It has been severely sore for two weeks. It feels as if something is stuck inside it. I did experience a condom breakage and also I have felt my cervix being hit during intercoirse can any of this caused a problem or is it just ecoli that has caused me to have a very sore swollen uterus ?
