Question : Hi, I have had an intermittent low grade fever since January. It ranges from 99.4 to 100.5 at the most. It seems to be correlated with movement/ exercise. I am 5’ 3” and 235 pounds, I have been obese for years, but recently crossed into the morbidly obese category. I saw my doctor in February. She was not concerned about cancer, etc due to normal lymph nodes and a clear chest X-ray. My c reactive protein was elevated, but was almost normal at a two week follow up. She did not pursue other testing so I have not returned, but the elevated temperature has persisted. Is it possible that it’s just connected to my increased weight?

Hello!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I understand your concern and would explain that your symptoms could be related to a metabolic disorder ( thyroid gland dysfunction) or chronic inflammation or infection.

For this reason, I would recommended performing some further tests in order to investigate for the possible causes:

- thyroid hormone levels
- an abdominal ultrasound
- Rheumatoid factor plasma levels
- Uric acid plasma levels
- HbA1C for diabetes
- ANA and XXXXXXX titer
- Fibrinogen plasma levels
- A urine bacterial culture
- Anti streptolysine antibodies titer.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above tests.

Hope you will find this answer helpful!
