Question : Hi I have had chemotherapy treatment for ovarian cancer about a year and half ago. presently I am screened for C1A25 marker every 3 months. My very first results was 3, and then 12, then it was 11 and now three months later it is 26 as I just got back the results today. I am worried because of the doubling in number and needed to know if this is normal to have these numbers fluctuate or can it mean signs of tumor recurrence. thanks

Hi,
Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service.
I am Dr. Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.
The rising CA-125 levels in such a scenario often are associated with tumor recurrence. Do you have any symptoms?
Although there could be other reasons for CA 125 rise, you need to be evacuated in detail for recurrence.
Please consult your oncologist for the same. S/he may order a PET scan if need be.
If you have further queries, do write back.
