Hi , I Have Recently Seen A Local Orthopedic Doctor

Question: Hi , I have recently seen a local orthopedic doctor after I injured my left foot whilst on vacation (twisted my foot whilst running). After an x-ray and MRI he advised there was no fracture but diagnosed peroneal tendinopathy. His recommendation for treatment was a steroid injection under guided ultra-sound. However I would like to consider a more conservative approach but feel uncomfortable discussing this with the original doctor who discounted this. I am also concerned the steroid may alleviate the pain but does nothing to remedy the cause? The foot at the moment is not too painful or swollen. What would be your recommendation ? By not having the steroid injection am I risking making the injury worse? Kind regards, Kieran

Brief Answer:
You can go with conservative approach.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
I have gone through your query and understand your health concerns ,
Peroneal tendinopathy is an inflammation of the tendon that causes a local pain and swelling.
This can respond to conservative treatment that includes rest, hot compress, mild pain killers and using an elastic brace for an extra support. You can also keep the foot elevated to decrease the swelling.
Local steroid shot will help in reducing the swelling but will not help in healing in the long term. This will decrease the symptoms earlier but you can go with the conservative approach and give it proper rest for healing.By not taking the steroid injection you will not make the injury worse.
I hope this answers your query.
