Question : Hi I'm a 43 year old female for the past few months I have been experiencing a sharp pinching pain in my lower center abdomen. The pain typically will last for a few seconds on and off and then disappear. He seems to be happening once every two weeks or so on and off for about a day. I have been to gyno had an exam, vaginal swabs and ultrasound everything checked out ok and normal. I am still experiencing these bursts of pain I have been also to gastro who felt it was related to my IBS (have had ibs for years, not with this pain) There is no pain upon movement or tenderness to the touch. Gyno said it can be very difficult to determine the source of such pain. What could this be, or what is it most commonly. Should I be overly concerned
Brief Answer:
It could be due to IBS.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Pain in the lower abdomen in the centre could be due to Uterine problem, Urinary bladder infection (Cystitis) etc.
As Ultrasound Abdomen is normal, these things are excluded.
Pain due to IBS can also occur in that area.
Sometimes, infection of the gut will also cause pain in that area.I prescribe Antibiotic like Rifaximine 200mg twice daily to my patients with gut infection.
Hope you are taking treatment for IBS from your Gastroenterologist. If there is no response, get prescription for Rifaximine and see the results.
Nothing to worry.
Please avoid stress.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions,I will clarify further.
Wish you good health
Regards

Thanks for the reply feel you are right about ibs my stomach has been very sensitive for the past few weeks alternating between constipation followed by diarrhea I have a quick question regarding ibs can it get worse with age and can you develop new food sensitivities I have noticed that I am unable to eat raw onions anymore whenever I happen to eat an onion I get very bad stomach cramps followed by diarrhea also how can I ease this flare of ibs and should I make a dr appointment to address this as there do not seem to be any red flag symptoms present
Brief Answer:
IBS is not related to age.
Detailed Answer:
Hi
IBS is not related to age.It doesn't increase or decrease by age.
It is also difficult to say about which food causes/aggravates IBS.Few foods which are well tolerated by few people can cause diarrhoea in few others. If you are developing diarrhoea after eating raw onions, it's better to stop taking them.Raw.onion can cause diarrhoea after they are consumed few hours after being cut.If they are taken immediately after cutting, chances of Diarrhoea are less.If you develop Diarrhoea even after eating raw onions immediately after cutting, you should stop eating them.
You should be stress free.
IBS doesn't need immediate medical attention; however if the symptoms are severe, it would be worthwhile to consult a doctor and whenever you meet your doctor, explain this to him and get appropriate prescription.
Nothing to worry.
Wish you good health
