Brief Answer:
Does not look like herpes

Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using 'Ask a Doctor'.

Based on the appearance in the pictures, this does not look like herpes. Herpes will typically show up as a cluster of fluid-filled blisters, which then open to form painful ulcers. This has more of the appearance of a folliculitis, which is just a small infection of the hair follicle. It should heal on its own without any problems, you could also put some antibiotic ointment on it to help it heal.

Only if you started developing a cluster of these, which were painful, and especially if you had recurrent episodes of them, would I suspect herpes.

I hope that helps.

Please let me know if you have any other questions, I would be glad to discuss it with you further.

Brief Answer:
Fordyce spots

Detailed Answer:
These appear to be Fordyce spots, which are just enlarged oil glands. They are harmless and don't require any treatment, though sometimes if the appearance bothers patients they can be treated with topical medications or laser treatments. But if they are not bothering you, I would just leave them, and generally they fade away over time.

Please let me know if you have any other questions, I'd be glad to help.
