Question : Hi I went in for a routine OGYN visit.y results were HSV 1 - 11.16 HSV 2 - 1.20.
Never had any symptoms. My partner got tested and received a negative results for HSV 1&2.

Follow up: Dr. Dr. Kakkar (7 minutes later)

Should I get another test to confirmation test now?

Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and noted your concern.

Your result for HSV 1 is distinctively positive whereas HSV 2 is just over the margin.

HSV 1 commonly causes cold sores. It is commonly transmitted non-sexually e.g through kissing even in childhood or later.

HSV 1 infection may asymptomatic and remain so for years and infectivity declines with very old infections. Since some of HSV 1 antigens are shared by HSV 2, so that may have caused a false positive test for type 2 HSV. You may repeat the test after an interval of 2-4 weeks.
