Question : Hi I’m a 43 year old female. Over the course of the past week I have been experiencing a brief crampy sharp pain over lower right abdomen feels almost like a muscle spasm. I’m currently on my period but do not usullly feel sharp pains. I had an u,trasound 8 months ago due to strange abdominal pinching pain everything can back normal. I also have experienced trouble with chronic bacterial vaginosis My question is should I be concerned about. Brief sharp intermittent pain and could it be related to my period or bacterial vaginosis?

Hi,

I understand your concerns. Following is my reply:

1) Sharp pain in lower abdomen at your age is likely to be due to urinary tract infection (UTI).

2) This is more of a possibility as you have bacterial vaginosis and UTI is associated commonly.

3) Since ultrasound was normal, i dont see any major problem.

4) Drink more water and see if you find relief. If no relief you may need to get urine routine , culture and sensitivity test done.

Thanks for your timely response can I still have an infection if I do not feel the pain when I urinate? Also the pain is sporadic happening two to three times a day every few days

You can still have infection even if you do not feel pain while you urinate. This sporadic lower abdomen pain suggests UTI.

Thanks for response just one more question for the past two periods my period seems to stop on day four and then day five I experience some light bleeding and cramping before period ends what could be the cause should I be concerned
